WORLD OZONE DAY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

WORLD OZONE DAY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

On the occasion of World Ozone Day, observed every year on September 16, the NSS Unit No. 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, organized an awareness campaign to educate the public on the importance of protecting the ozone layer. The theme of this year’s observance emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals and communities in preserving the ozone layer — the Earth’s protective shield. The awareness programme was inaugurated at the college premises, followed by a community outreach activity in the surrounding areas of Changaramkulam. NSS volunteers distributed informative pamphlets to the residents near the college, spreading awareness about ozone depletion, its causes, and the measures needed to prevent it. Through interactive discussions and one-on-one conversations, volunteers explained the importance of the ozone layer, the harmful effects of its depletion, and the role of human activities such as pollution and the use of harmful chemicals (like CFCs) in damaging it. The volunteers also shared simple, eco-friendly lifestyle practices that individuals can adopt — such as reducing plastic usage, using public transport, and avoiding ozone-depleting substances.
