WORLD HEPATITIS DAY OBSERVATION

Valayamkulam, July 28, 2025: In observance of World Hepatitis Day, the Department of Food Science and Technology in association with the NSS Unit 240 of Assabah Arts & Science College, Valayamkulam, organized a public awareness program to educate the community on the importance of liver health and the prevention of hepatitis. Every year, July 28 is globally marked as World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness about the various types of hepatitis and to promote proactive steps toward prevention, early detection, and treatment. This year’s program focused on reaching out to the community directly through an impactful awareness initiative and leaflet distribution.

The awareness campaign was conducted at the Alamkot Primary Health Center and across Valayamkulam Town, where volunteers and faculty members interacted with the public, distributed informative leaflets, and answered questions about liver health, hepatitis transmission, vaccination, hygiene, and safe food practices.

The program was jointly led by Dr. Rizwana Nasrin, Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, and NSS Program Officer Abdul Rahman P. Faculty members Sitara, Sridevi, Azad, and other staff actively participated in the campaign, offering guidance and support to the student volunteers.

The primary objective of the program was to promote awareness among the local community, especially regarding preventable aspects of hepatitis, and to foster healthy practices that safeguard liver health. Through this effort, Assabah College reaffirmed its commitment to public health education and social outreach. The program was well-received by the public, with many appreciating the effort of students and teachers to engage directly with the community on a matter of vital health importance.
