Assabah NSS Unit Spearheads Extensive Environment Day Celebrations
As part of the World Environment day weekly observance the NSS Unit 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, marked Environment Day with a comprehensive series of events aimed at fostering environmental protection and social responsibility. The celebrations, held on June 5th Thursday 2025 saw active participation from students, faculty, and local community members.
The day's events commenced with a solemn Environment Day pledge ceremony, led by Dr. Harikrishnan K, Head of the English Department. Dr. Harikrishnan delivered a stirring address emphasizing the critical importance of protecting nature, inspiring students to commit to environmental stewardship.
Following the pledge, the NSS volunteers engaged in hands-on environmental activities. A significant part of the program involved the nurturing of saplings previously planted along roadsides in the preceding years, highlighting the unit's commitment to long-term environmental sustainability. In addition to this, new saplings were planted, further contributing to the green cover of the college campus and its surrounding areas.
The initiatives undertaken by the Assabah NSS Unit garnered significant appreciation from both the local villagers and the teaching staff. The community lauded the students' efforts, expressing the sentiment that such programs are instrumental in cultivating environmental awareness and social responsibility among the youth.
The successful execution of the various Environment Day programs was attributed to the dedicated leadership of NSS Program Officer Abdul Rahman. P, supported by teachers Anshad. K.T. and Shaheem O.H. Their guidance ensured the smooth coordination and enthusiastic participation in all activities, making the Environment Day celebration a resounding success and a testament to the college's commitment to environmental causes.
