An Introductory Class on Git and GitHub

     The Department of Computer Applications, in association with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Cyber Club, Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, organized an introductory programme titled “VERSION CONTROL – An Introductory Class to Git & GitHub” on 18 August 2026 at 1:30 PM in the Conference Hall. The programme was monitored by IQAC.
The session was handled by Mrs. Ramshida VP, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Application, Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam. The programme was organized with the objective of introducing first-year students to the concept and importance of version control in software development. The class provided students with a basic understanding of Git and GitHub and their role in collaborative software development.
A major component of the programme was the practical demonstration. Students were introduced to the basic usage of Git and GitHub through a step-by-step demonstration. The session covered the basic workflow of creating and managing a repository, making changes to files, tracking changes, and working with repositories on GitHub. The practical orientation helped students connect the theoretical concept of version control with its actual use in software development.
The programme successfully created awareness among the students about the importance of version control and collaborative development practices. It also encouraged students to begin using Git and GitHub for their academic programming projects and future software development activities.The collaborative efforts of the Department of Computer Applications, IIC and Cyber Club, under the monitoring of IQAC, contributed to making the programme informative and relevant to the students.
