A two-day Nature Camp organized under the auspices of the NSS Unit of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, concluded successfully at the Nature Camp Centre, Agali Panchayat, Attappadi, on October 10 and 11, 2025. The camp aimed to provide students with an immersive experience in environmental education, tribal culture, and sustainable living practices. Organized in collaboration with the Forest and Wildlife Department, the camp offered a variety of activities combining academic learning with practical exposure. Participants took part in environmental study sessions, a visit to the Attappadi Millet Village, interactions with local communities, and trekking expeditions to Narasimukku and Sholayur, which offered a deeper understanding of the biodiversity and ecological significance of the region. The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Latheef, Coordinator of the Attappadi Camp Centre and a noted public activist, who highlighted the importance of youth involvement in environmental conservation and the need to understand the harmony between nature and indigenous life. The inaugural session was presided over by NSS Programme Officer Mr. Abdul Rahman P., who emphasized that such nature camps play a vital role in nurturing environmental awareness and leadership qualities among NSS volunteers. A special study class on “The Life and Culture of Attappadi Tribal Communities” was conducted by Mr. Safin, a social worker and researcher specializing in Attappadi tribal studies. His session provided valuable insights into the socio-economic challenges and traditional wisdom of the tribal population in the region. Faculty members Mr. Shafiq T. K., Ms. Aisha Hana Kuniyath, and Ms. Shameela M. K. actively coordinated and supervised various sessions of the camp, ensuring its smooth conduct.
Around fifty NSS volunteers from Assabah College enthusiastically participated in the camp, taking part in every activity with dedication and enthusiasm. The camp concluded with a valedictory function, during which Mr. Latheef distributed certificates of participation to the volunteers and appreciated their active involvement and discipline throughout the program. The two-day Nature Camp served as a memorable and educational experience, strengthening the volunteers’ commitment to environmental protection and social responsibility. The organizers expressed that the camp was a significant step toward instilling eco-consciousness and community engagement among the students of Assabah College.
