MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS: BUILDING STRONG MINDS FOR A HEALTHY FUTURE

The Unarvu Counselling Centre, in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, conducted an awareness session for the JRC Cadets of Mookuthala Government Higher Secondary School on 30th October at 2:00 PM in the school hall. The session focused on the theme “Mental Health Matters: Building Strong Minds for a Healthy Future”. The programme was formally inaugurated by the Headmistress of the school. The session was facilitated by Ms. Afeefa M.K., Psychologist, Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, with the support of first-year Psychology students Thalmia and Hisana. The event was attended by 91 students, who actively participated in the session aimed at enhancing mental health awareness.

Objectives

  • To create awareness among students about the importance of mental health.
  • To help students understand common psychological challenges faced during adolescence.
  • To promote positive coping strategies for stress, anxiety, and academic pressure.
  • To encourage a supportive school environment that fosters emotional well-being.
  • To motivate students to seek help when facing mental health concerns.

Conclusion

The awareness session successfully enlightened the students about the significance of mental health and emotional well-being. The interactive approach and informative presentation helped the cadets gain a better understanding of stress management, resilience building, and the importance of seeking timely support. The programme received positive feedback from participants, marking it as a valuable initiative towards promoting mental health in the school community. The active involvement of the students and the support from the staff contributed to the overall success of the programme.
