1. Introduction and Objectives
The PG Department of English at Assabah Arts and Science College successfully organized a dedicated workshop titled “Focus Fit: Mind Strengthening Programme” on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. The initiative was designed specifically for the 6th-semester BA English students, aiming to equip them with essential psychological tools and techniques to manage academic pressure, enhance concentration, and foster positive mental health as they approach their final examinations and career decisions.
2. Programme Proceedings
The programme commenced with a formal welcome address delivered by the Head of the PG Department of English, who highlighted the critical importance of mental well-being in achieving academic excellence.
The session was led by the distinguished Resource Person, Ms. Afeefa MK, a practicing Psychologist. She was formally introduced, acknowledging her expertise in cognitive behavioral strategies and youth counseling.
3. Key Session Highlights
Ms. Afeefa MK conducted an engaging and interactive session focusing on several core areas:
Stress and Anxiety Management: Practical coping mechanisms were demonstrated, including mindfulness exercises and deep-breathing techniques tailored for high-pressure situations like examinations.
Enhancing Focus and Concentration: She introduced the "Pomodoro Technique" and methods for minimizing digital distractions, emphasizing the concept of 'deep work' to improve study efficiency.
Positive Self-Talk and Goal Setting: Students were guided on how to reframe negative thoughts into constructive motivational statements and the importance of setting realistic, short-term study goals.
The Role of Sleep and Nutrition: The resource person stressed the biological link between physical health and cognitive function, advocating for structured sleep hygiene and balanced nutrition.
The session was highly interactive, featuring small group discussions and a dedicated Q&A segment where students openly discussed their anxieties and received personalized advice from Ms. Afeefa.
4. Conclusion and Feedback
The "Focus Fit" programme was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the students, who appreciated the timely and relevant nature of the session.
