The Department of Computer Applications successfully organized an engaging debate competition as a part of reading week celebration on the topic “Making of a Story:Movie or Book..? to foster critical thinking,communication skills and collaborative learning among students while promoting awareness of reading habits. The competition was conducted on 20/06/2025, with active participation from Second year BCA and BSc. Computer Science students.Teams with a maximum of 12 members participated,presenting arguments for and against the superiority of books or movies in storytelling.
The competition was officially inaugurated by the Principal, Prof. MN Mohammed Koya, who highlighted the importance of communication skills and awareness of reading habits and appreciated the department for encouraging collaborative learning.
Welcome Speech was delivered by Fathima Rena K, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries, participants, and the judjing panel. The debate was well received with active participation from students and faculty.The event successfully encouraged students to reflect on their media consumption habits and the value of reading and visualization. The following outcomes were observed:
Critical Thinking: Participants analyzed the strengths and limitations of books and movies as storytelling mediums, developing logical arguments and rebuttals.
Communication Skills: Students enhanced their public speaking and articulation abilities while presenting their viewpoints persuasively.
Awareness of Reading Habits: The debate highlighted the importance of reading by discussing the depth and imagination it fosters compared to visual storytelling.
Collaborative Learning: Teamwork was emphasized as participants worked together to structure arguments and counterpoints.
The debate was well-received, with active participation from students and faculty.Participants appreciated the opportunity to explore creative and analytical perspectives on storytelling.The event successfully encouraged students to reflect on their media consumption habits and the value of literature.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Hiba Sharin, who expressed gratitude to the management, faculty and all participants for their support and cooperation.
