Introduction:
The Book Review Competition organized at Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, was a significant academic initiative aimed at fostering reading habits, critical thinking, and literary appreciation among students. The programme was conducted under the joint auspices of the NDLI Club & Library Council to encourage students to engage deeply with books and articulate their insights confidently. The event reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting intellectual development and strengthening a vibrant reading culture within the campus.
Event Details:
The Book Review Competition was held on 18 February 2026 at the college campus. The program began with a warm and thoughtful welcome address delivered by the Librarian, Mr Sinoj A. The Principal, Prof. Mohamed Koya M N, performed the formal inauguration of the event. In his inaugural address, he encouraged students to develop analytical reading skills and effective communication abilities. He reminded the participants that books are not merely academic tools but gateways to knowledge, imagination, and personal growth.
The competition provided a valuable platform for students to present their book reviews with originality and clarity. Participants were evaluated based on their understanding of the content, depth of analysis, presentation skills, and language proficiency.
The program concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Safoora P K. She expressed her gratitude to the Principal for inaugurating the event, to the Librarian for his guidance and leadership, to the judges for their fair and constructive evaluation, and to all the participants whose enthusiastic involvement made the program truly meaningful.
Participation:
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. Participants selected diverse books and presented insightful reviews, reflecting their creativity, interpretative skills, and depth of reading. The active involvement of students demonstrated their genuine interest in literature and intellectual engagement. Even those who did not secure prizes displayed commendable effort and courage in expressing their ideas before the audience. Their participation itself was a valuable learning experience and a step forward in personal and academic growth.
Conclusion:
