BEYOND BOOKSHELF:EXPLORING E-JOURNALS

Introduction:

            The Library and Resource Centre, in association with IQAC, conducted a session on “Beyond Bookshelf – Exploring E-Journals” on 05-11-2025 at the Conference Hall. The event aimed to familiarise students and faculty with the growing world of electronic journals and to encourage the effective use of digital resources for academic and research excellence.

Event Details:

            The event began with a welcome address by Sri. Sinoj A., Librarian, introduced the theme of the session and highlighted the importance of exploring electronic resources beyond traditional bookshelves. Following this, Sri. Asharaf P.P., President of the College Management Committee, delivered the presidential address. In his speech, he appreciated the Library and IQAC for organising such an initiative that aligns with the college’s mission of integrating technology into academic practices. He also emphasised the importance of keeping pace with the digital transformation in higher education.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Mohamed Koya M.N., Principal of the College, who, in his inaugural address, spoke about the vital role of e-resources in enhancing research quality and accessibility. The Resource Person, Dr. Vimal K.P., Head of the Department of Microbiology and Research Director, Markaz Arts and Science College, led the main session with an engaging and insightful presentation. He discussed the relevance of e-journals in modern education, ways to access scholarly publications through digital platforms, and the crucial role of libraries in guiding students towards authentic online sources.

Dr K. Harikrishnan, Head of the Department of English, and Sri. Sinaj, College Union Chairman, conveyed felicitations, applauding the initiative and its academic relevance. Further felicitations were offered by Dr Baiju Mukkadakkattil, Vice Principal, Sri Shahid, Head of the Department of Physics, and Sri. Shoukathali, Office Superintendent, commended the organisers for promoting digital learning and research-oriented awareness among students.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Smt. Safoora P.K., expressing heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and the organising team.

Participation:

The session witnessed active participation from the first-year students from various departments, faculty members, and guests. The interactive segment that followed the presentation allowed participants to share their insights, experiences, and queries about e-journal usage and digital research tools. The enthusiasm and engagement of students reflected the growing interest in digital learning platforms.

Conclusion:

            The session on “Beyond the Bookshelf – Exploring E-Journals” was a meaningful step towards cultivating a culture of digital literacy and academic innovation at Assabah Arts and Science College. The event successfully bridged the gap between traditional library resources and emerging digital tools, empowering students and faculty to explore new frontiers of knowledge. The collaborative efforts of the Library and IQAC reaffirm the college’s commitment to fostering excellence through continuous learning, research, and technology integration.
