On June 10, 2025, the Department of English at Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, organized a documentary exhibition featuring Before the Flood (2016), a globally acclaimed documentary on climate change presented and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Fisher Stevens. The event aimed to raise awareness among students and faculty about the pressing issue of climate change, its global impact, and the urgent need for sustainable actions. Held in alignment with the college’s commitment to fostering social responsibility and environmental consciousness, the exhibition was a significant step toward engaging the academic community in meaningful discussions on environmental challenges.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Abdul Rahman P, Assistant Professor, Department of English. In his speech, he emphasized the relevance of Before the Flood in today’s context, highlighting Leonardo DiCaprio’s role as a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
The event was officially inaugurated by Dr. Harikrishnan K, Head of the Department of English. In his inaugural address, Dr. Harikrishnan underscored the importance of such initiatives in academic institutions, particularly in fostering a sense of global citizenship among students.
