Valayamkulam, Malappuram - The NSS 240 unit and Mental Health Club of Valayamkulam Assabah College recently organized a comprehensive awareness program to observe Awareness Day against violence against senior citizens. The event, titled "Friendly Evening," was a collaborative effort aimed at fostering solidarity and respect for the elderly in the community.
The program was specifically designed to involve senior citizens from the areas surrounding the college, creating a direct and meaningful interaction between the students and the elderly. Volunteers from the Mental Health Club took the lead in organizing and facilitating the various activities, ensuring a friendly and engaging atmosphere. A key highlight of the day was the distribution of purple badges to all students and teachers. This symbolic gesture was a powerful way for the college community to express their collective solidarity against violence against senior citizens. The day's activities culminated in a college-wide pledge, where every student took a vow to stand against violence and abuse targeting the elderly.
The program was officially inaugurated by Assabah College Principal, Muhammad Koya M. N. Distinguished speakers at the event included P.P.M. Ashraf and Muhammadunni Haji from the Assabah Trust, along with NSS Program Officer Abdul Rahman. P, and English Department teacher Shobha Sreedharan. Their speeches emphasized the importance of treating senior citizens with dignity and respect, and highlighted the role of the youth in creating a safer and more inclusive society for the elderly.
